Details:
Having already performed with blues bands from Connecticut to Texas and everywhere in between, Kevin is not new to the blues scene. He honed his chops by joining the regionally popular Fat Daddy Band in 1996 at the ripe old age of 22. During his tenure with them, the Fat Daddy Band won the Charlotte Blues Society's 2001 Talent Competition and was a finalist at the Blues Foundation's 2002 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. His diverse style can be described as a range from traditional Chicago blues ("nice Hubert Sumlin licks" - Bob Margolin) to powerful Texas swing ("punishing guitar work a la Jimi meets Stevie Ray" - Ralph Berrier Jr., The Roanoke Times). Selfe performed with Little Rodger and The Cheap Thrills from 2002-2005 and formed his own group Kevin Selfe & The Tornadoes in June 2005. In April 2006, Kevin won Guitar Center's King of The Blues Competition in Richmond, VA. Selfe had the honor in Janaury 2007 to back up former Muddy Waters' sideman and harmonica legend, the late Carey Bell, in one of his last shows. After spending 11 years touring the Eastern US, Kevin moved to Portland, OR in January 2007 and where he is becoming part of the vibrant West Coast blues scene.
